Mission Statement
At Upcomers, our mission is to empower and promote emerging black and minority-owned brands by offering them valuable resources and exposure. We provide our partner brands access to a creative community, events, consultants, photographers, and educational materials to support their growth and success. Our platform leverages social media and The Collective lookbook to connect our designers with a broader audience. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive fashion industry that celebrates and uplifts underrepresented voices.
Our Vision
At our organization, we envision a future where black and minority communities are empowered to achieve their full potential. We believe that creativity is a powerful tool for driving social and economic change. By providing resources and opportunities for education, business development, and artistic expression, we hope to build a strong and vibrant community that supports innovators who are driving meaningful progress in the world. Our ultimate goal is to help resource wealth back into black and minority communities, creating a more equitable and just society for all.
The founder
Meet the Founder, Yelissa Lopez, a student at Columbia University majoring in Applied Physics. Growing up in Castle Hill (an inner-city community in the Bronx), Yelissa was determined to give back to her community.
Her admission to Columbia gave Yelissa the opportunity to do so. Starting out college in the midst of a pandemic, she made many connections with students outside of her major. Many of them were creatives who dreamed of pursuing photography, dance, and fashion, but as a minority, they felt obligated to pursue lucrative majors such as engineering and marketing. This only brought more dimensionality to their craft which inspired Yelissa to delve deeper into her creativity.
Her love for fashion and desire to provide advancement opportunities to her community pushed her to start Upcomers. Yelissa sought to connect her current network with communities like Castle Hill to help them achieve their creative goals.
